Day 1: Arrival in Uganda

Your unforgettable adventure through Northern Uganda begins the moment you step off the plane at Entebbe International Airport. A warm welcome awaits you as our representative greets you and transfers you to your charming accommodation at Papyrus Guest House. Nestled in a serene environment, this cozy guest house provides a perfect place to relax after your journey. Here, you’ll enjoy your first taste of Ugandan hospitality with a delicious meal and a restful night in preparation for the thrilling 12-day Secrets of Northern Uganda Adventure that lies ahead.

 

Day 2: Sipi Falls & Coffee Tour

After a hearty breakfast, we embark on a scenic journey towards Tororo, where you’ll be treated to a view of the awe-inspiring Tororo Rock, which rises 300 meters above the surrounding plains. We then head to Mbale, a town at the base of Mount Elgon, known for its rich heritage and stunning views that provides a perfect introduction to the local way of life. Enjoy a delicious lunch stop in Mbale, savoring local delicacies and experiencing the town’s warmth. After a tasty lunch in Mbale, we continue to Sipi Village, nestled between mountains and waterfalls In the afternoon, we take you on an enlightening village coffee tour, where you’ll discover how Uganda’s famous coffee is grown and processed, from seed to cup. The rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee will add a sensory layer to your journey, as you gain insight into one of Uganda’s most prized exports. After a full day of exploration, enjoy a peaceful night at Rafiki Lodge Sipi.

Day 3: Sipi Waterfall Hike

After breakfast, embark on a hike to the enchanting Sipi Falls, trekking to the base of this renowned cascade. Then, ascend rugged paths to explore hidden caves, passing through maize fields, banana groves, and traditional bandas. Immerse yourself in the beauty of nature and refresh under the falls’ natural shower. Take in breathtaking panoramic views of the valley before witnessing a stunning sunset over the Eastern Ugandan plains. Later, retreat to Rafiki Lodge Sipi for relaxation, or for a more thrilling experience, try abseiling down the majestic falls. Day 4: Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve

 Journey to the enchanting Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve, where vast plains meet acacia woodlands and ancient rock formations, framed by the towering Mount Kadam and Mount Napak. After a picnic lunch, explore the reserve’s wildlife tracks, searching for unique species like the Roan antelope, which is found only here, along with oribi, klipspringer, hyenas, ostriches, leopards, impalas, Jackson’s hartebeest, and Rothschild giraffes. Pian Upe is also one of the best places in Uganda to spot cheetahs, so keep your eyes peeled for these graceful cats. Afterward, head to Karamoja Safari Camp for an evening of rest and reflection in this remote, captivating region.

Day 5: Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve- Kidepo Valley National Park

After breakfast, embark on an exhilarating game safari in Pian Upe, where you’ll search for more wildlife amid the reserve’s vast plains. Then, continue your journey through Karamoja, taking in breathtaking views of the rugged eastern Ugandan landscape and the towering Mount Kadam (3,068 meters). Day 6: Game Safaris in Narus Valley & Kanangorok Hot Springs.

This beautiful valley, surrounded by rugged hills, offers prime opportunities to spot a variety of wildlife, including herds of Burchell’s zebra, Jackson’s hartebeest, Oribi, African buffalo, and Grant’s gazelle. As you explore the savannah plains, you’ll pass the seasonally dry Kidepo River, where, on a lucky day, you might spot large troops of baboons near the riverbed. Enjoy a scenic picnic lunch amidst the beauty of the park before continuing your journey to the Kanangorok hot springs in the northern part of the park. Day 7: Kidepo Valley Nature Walk & Nyangea Napore Cultural Experience

After breakfast, venture into the heart of the Narus Valley for a nature walk across the savannah plains. Accompanied by a Wildlife Authority ranger, you’ll have the opportunity to experience the park’s diverse wildlife up close, as your ranger guides you in tracking animals on foot. This immersive safari will deepen your understanding of the ecosystem and the history of the park, as you spot wildlife in their natural habitat. After a delicious lunch, head to the Nyangea Napore Cultural Experience, where you’ll spend 2-3 hours engaging with the local Karamojong community. This vibrant cultural immersion gives you the opportunity to participate in daily activities, such as gathering food from the granary, grinding grains, and joining in community games. Experience the warmth of the community as you take part in traditional dances, listen to storytelling, and hear the rich folklore passed down through generations. This is a unique opportunity to connect with the Karamojong people, learning about their customs, beliefs, and way of life.

Day 8: Transfer from Kidepo Valley to Murchison Falls National Park.

After an early breakfast, bid farewell to the wilderness of Kidepo Valley National Park as the sun rises over the savannah. Begin your scenic drive, passing through the rugged mountains and plains, with a brief stop in Kitgum before continuing to the bustling town of Gulu, the hub of northern Uganda. From Gulu, continue your journey towards Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest and most famous national park. As you arrive, head to your accommodation to unwind and enjoy the serene surroundings after a long day of travel. Day 9: Game Safari & Boat Cruise.

Today, immerse yourself in the untamed beauty of the Victoria and Albert Nile savannah plains. Venture deep into wildlife territory, where towering palm trees and serene Acacia woodlands set the stage for a day of thrilling wildlife sightings. As you explore, keep an eye out for the various species of wildlife found here. Stop at the hippo pool along the Victoria Nile delta, where these magnificent creatures laze in the shallow waters, providing a fantastic photo opportunity. After a delightful lunch, embark on a mesmerizing boat cruise along the mighty Nile, meandering upstream towards the stunning Murchison Falls. Along the way, observe pods of hippos in the water and look out for crocodiles on the riverbanks. For bird watchers, this is a true paradise, with abundant species like the Red-throated and Northern-carmine Bee-eaters nesting on the Nyamusika cliffs. Upon reaching the base of the falls, marvel at the spectacle of the White Nile surging through a narrow 7-meter gap in the rocks and tumbling 43 meters into the river below, creating a powerful display as it flows through Fajao Gorge and onto the savannah plains.

Arrive in time for a delicious lunch and some relaxation before embarking on an exciting 2-hour Rhino Trekking Session. This incredible experience offers the rare chance to observe the majestic rhinos up close in their natural habitat. As you trek through the sanctuary, keep an eye out for other wildlife, such as Uganda kobs, oribis, bushbucks, and waterbucks, as well as a variety of bird species that call this area home. Paddle through the tranquil waters of Lugogo Swamp, where you’ll not only have the opportunity to see this remarkable bird but also witness the breathtaking Ugandan sunrise illuminating the swamp—truly a magical experience.
