Shimba Hills National Reserve is a protected area located in the coastal region of Kenya, about 33 km south of Mombasa City. The reserve covers an area of approximately 202 square kilometers and was established in 1968 to protect the coastal rainforest ecosystem and its inhabitants.
The reserve is home to over 100 species of birds, including the endangered Clarke’s weaver, as well as rare animals such as the Sable antelope, elephant shrew, and the elusive leopard. It also has a diverse range of flora and fauna, including different types of trees, shrubs, and herbs.
Visitors to the reserve can enjoy a variety of activities such as game drives, nature walks, and bird watching. The reserve also offers camping facilities, picnic sites, and a tree-top walkway that provides a unique view of the forest canopy.
Shimba Hills National Reserve is an important conservation area, and its unique biodiversity makes it a popular destination for both local and international tourists.
ITINERARY.
Pick up from Diani beach or Mombasa for 20 minutes trip to Shimba Hills National Reserve. Enjoy an early morning game-viewing drive/trek at the Shimba Hills National Reserve. Here you will see the Include Endangered Sable Antelope, Elephants, Giraffes, Leopard, Genet, Civet cat, Hyenas, Waterbuck, Bushpig, Buffalo, African Bush Baby, Bushbuck, Coastal Black and white Colobus, Blue Duiker, Bush Duiker, Red Duiker, Greater Galago, Black-faced Vervet Monkey, Sykes Monkey, Serval cat, Black and Red Shrew, and Knob-bristled Suni Shrew.
After a wonderful drive, it’s time to take you to the Shimba Green Lodge located in Shimba hills (Kwale), south coast of Mombasa Kenya. The lodge comprises of; Tented chalets, Chalets, and a Paradise suite (honeymoon suite!) . The lodge is situated on a Hill Crest viewing the Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary on the Northern foothills of the Shimba Hills National Reserve and just about 20 minutes (30km) from Diani Beach.
