This unique adventure offers an intimate glimpse into the everyday life of the Maasai people, inviting you to share in their traditions, learn their time-honored techniques, and forge connections that transcend cultural boundaries
After breakfast at your Amboseli lodge/camp, you will drive to the Maasai Village. Upon arrival you are welcomed by song and dance and your guide for the day will take you through a brief of what to expect during this cultural tour.
The day will be unique as you will be provided with your Maasai attire as well as given a local name. We will proceed for a tour of the village where you can witness and join their traditional songs and dances, learn about the different manyatta huts, how they are constructed, where each member of the family lives, their roles in the community, and their nomadic way of living.
The Local elders will take you through their ancient history, how they have adapted to the modern way of living, and its impact on their traditional values and customs. Men will walk with the warriors to learn about their initiation and stages in the rites of passage from boys to moran to junior elders then senior elders and similarly, the ladies will accompany the local women as they are taught women’s roles in the community.
After an educative process, you will help slaughter a goat and assist in preparing while learning how to make fire, prepare traditional meals, and different types of herbs used. When the meal is ready, you will enjoy a meal together with your host family. You will also be entertained through song and dance and make sure you learn at least one song.
After lunch, you will proceed to the Maasai Craft Center where all beaded jewelry is hand-made by the local women. You can learn from them how to hand-make your jewelry, you can also purchase your souvenirs to promote the locals.
After a beautiful day with the locals, you will be transferred to your hotel.
